The Hempfield Area Food Pantry, located in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of Landisville, is a member agency of the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank fulfills its mission by working in partnership with a network of community agencies.

The Central Pennsylvania Food Bank is an independent entity with a Board of Directors consisting of community volunteers. The Food Bank is also a member of America's Second Harvest-The Nation's Food Bank Network, comprised of more than 200 food banks and food-rescue programs.

From jars of peanut butter to canned vegetables, the Hempfield Area Food Pantry welcomes shelf-safe food contributions, as well as monetary donations.

Phil’s Garden

Zion Lutheran members plant, nourish and harvest a small garden.

In memory of Phillip G. Hartenstine, the Zion Garden was renamed, "Phil's Garden," and dedicated during the May 5, 2024 Rogation Sunday. Phil was a champion of the garden, as he was with many other church services. This tribute is to remind everyone that his willingness to give, his spirit, his kindness are an affirmation of life. With a variety of fresh vegetables and fruit that are grown spring to autumn, our continuing harvest provides fresh produce for those who attend Community Meals.

Zion’s Angels

Zion’s Angels is a group of Zion members who sponsor year-around events in support of the Relay for Life.

The Relay for Life mission is to raise cancer awareness—providing funds for research in order to cure cancer. Zion’s Angels sponsors many events in the community. Several times a year, there are Zion’s Angels Barbecue fundraisers.

Twice a year, the Zion’s Angels go into high gear and produce chocolate products that are sold to the congregation for Christmas and Easter festivities. Other fundraisers are done annually to engage the congregation and our community.

Backpack Give-Away

Prior to the start of the school year, Zion sponsors a Backpack Give-Away.

The community program centers on local school students who may be in need of school supplies and/or backpacks.
